I am writing this letter concerning Rocco Mastrovito-Smith, a young man that it has been my privilege to interact with over the past two years as a current hockey player of mine. Over that time, Rocco has demonstrated many outstanding qualities, both professionally and personally, and I believe that he will in consideration for any award or institution.

I have known Rocco for six years. Rocco is a current player for me for the past two seasons In that time, I was able to see him grow into that young man that he is today. He is a true role model both within the classrooms but on the athletic fields/ice rinks as well. He is a true leader and has the personality that coaches want to instill in the rest of their team.

Rocco is a two year captain for me on the Varsity Ice Hockey team at New Hartford High School as a goalie. When I think about Rocco, a very special quote pops in my mind. This a quote by John Maxwell.
“Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others ”. This is something that Rocco brings to all of those around him. His ability to help his teammates feel comfortable is remarkable. He has such a presence that influences everyone around him to not only do the right thing, but try to excel beyond their potential.

Rocco’s dedication and commitment to his teammates and people are among the strongest I have seen. Rocco has always been one of those people that does not want to be average in anything that he does. He is constantly questioning, learning, and looking for that one or more things that will make whatever he is doing better. This covers all aspects of his life, and I believe it is what makes him special as a person.

Colleagues and people like Rocco Mastrovito-Smith do not come around too often. He embodies everything positive that we value as educators, and will bring the highest levels of character, class, and enthusiasm wherever he goes. I have no reservations in giving him my highest recommendation to be a part of any college, institution, or program. I know he will only be successful there, and will make it a better place for everyone around him.
