The Hobey Baker award is an award that honors a senior player who exemplifies character, excellence, love of the game and sportsmanship. The Terriers 2024-2025 Hobey Baker Award recipient is Peyton Hasler.
Peyton Hasler has undoubtedly had a lasting impact on the Terriers hockey team, coaches, and community members throughout his three years of playing. His love of hockey and of this team have been the focus of his life the past three years. Always striving to be better to support his team, his positive energy, friendly demeanor, and engaging personality instantly make those around him feel comfortable and welcomed. Off season, pre-season, in season, he is always trying to develop himself into the best hockey player, teammate and person he can be.
Peyton’s leadership skills have been evident from the moment he joined our team. It is no coincidence he was named a captain during both his junior and senior seasons. He became a focal point and the glue of the team’s offense, willing and able to work with anyone and making those around him better players. Peyton was projected to have a standout senior season, when a harmless looking collision during a game changed his trajectory for the rest of his high school career. Peyton broke his arm and would most likely miss the remainder of his senior season. This was every player’s worst nightmare and it is hard to express the anguish we all felt for him. What most people don’t know about Peyton is that underneath that kind heart and welcoming smile is an inner strength and character that is unmatched by anyone on this team. The resilient and selfless leader he has exhibited throughout the remainder of the season is truly hard to express in words. Peyton missed ONE team practice and has continued to be an integral part of our team, leadership and coaching staff. His demeanor in front of the team has not wavered, or his hope, positive energy and belief in our team. Amazingly, the coaches have never even needed to ask or suggest he be there for us, he just always is!
Peyton’s strength of character, perseverance and integrity in face of adversity are truly inspiring. The impact he has had on this team on and off the ice is immeasurable. There truly is no one more deserving of the prestigious Hobey Baker Award than Peyton Hasler.
