Countdown to Hobey:

Maxwell Deckard

2025 | South Carolina | BOYS

Columbia Fusion National | Columbia Fusion Varsity | BOYS

Max started playing hockey when he was 9 years old. His interest began when he attended South Carolina Stingray games. His dad and his brother inspired him to start playing the game. Max played both baseball and hockey until I was 15. Eventually, Max gave up baseball to pursue his passion for hockey.
Max volunteers at the Try Hockey for Free and the North Charleston Police Department’s Cops Athletic Program hockey program.
As Max completes his senior year and final year of high school hockey he earned the Assistant Captain role. Throughout the season he provided leadership, discipline, and most importantly he was a good teammate.
Max faced a tragedy this year. His brother, who previously played hockey in the SC high school league died tragically. The team rallied around him and provided support during his time of healing. This support from his teammates showed how his teammates viewed him as a player and a friend in need. He continued to show up to practices and games while dealing with this tragic event.
Max plays the game of hockey because he loves it. He rarely misses practices and typically has a smile on his face when he enters the rink. This season Max has found his own voice and is not afraid to say what is on his mind when it comes to the team. His work ethic earned him a place as a top-six forward for the Columbia Fusion. With this work ethic and commitment, there is no doubt that Max will achieve his dreams in life.
