I would like to take the opportunity to nominate a senior athlete on my team, Matthew Romero. Matthew exemplifies this award everyday during practice and games, and represents Hobey Baker’s legacy. Matt was an assistant captain for our team this year, and is a great leader on and off the ice.

Matt started the year as our starting goaltender. Throughout the midway point of the season, Matt started to see our backup goaltender getting more start’s in net than he was. Instead of complaining about his lack of playing time and being a senior, he understood what was happening on the ice, continued to work hard everyday during practice, and was our backup goaltenders biggest fan even when he wasn’t playing.

Not only is Matt a great teammate and a great goaltender, he is also a standout in the classroom.
