RECOMMENDATION FOR: Jill Peabody

It has been my privilege to coach Hobey Baker candidate Jill Peabody at Needham High School at the varsity level for the past four seasons. She has been an integral part of the program since her freshman season. As a forward, she is described as an aggressive yet intelligent player, responsible for and involved with some of the more critical offensive game plans during her tenure with the high school program.
Because underclassmen are often called upon to assume and shoulder the responsibilities of varsity players, it is important to have players like Jill on our team. She handles all expectations with the same level of confidence and commitment regardless of grade level and continuously sets an example for her teammates.
As a senior captain, Jill exemplifies sportsmanship and leadership. Jill has modeled resiliency, perseverance, and a commitment to her team. Regardless of how difficult or challenging the contest, Jill is always a calm and steady presence, leading by example. Her dedication to inclusivity has forged strong relationships and bonds between and among all members of the team, regardless of year, ability, and playing time.
In addition, Jill’s commitment to both individual and collective excellence is unquestioned. As a member of a solid contingency of players, she elevates the play of her teammates during practice as well as in game situations. When called upon, she is willing to step up and fill any role needed by the team at any given moment. Jill always puts her teammates, her school, and her respect for the game of hockey above any personal considerations. When faced with difficult and challenging team dynamics, Jill utilizes the same grounded and resilient approach she has mastered as captain and is able to both mediate and resolve many disagreements by collaborating with her co-captains and teammates.
Further, her conduct both on and off the ice and her enthusiasm for the sport continue to set an example for the younger members of the program. Jill has significantly contributed to a reputation the team enjoys as being competitive yet gracious, both in victory and defeat. As captain, her teammates look to her for support, encouragement, and motivation.
For these reasons, I strongly and without reservation recommend Jill Peabody for this award.
